The design of the golden armor for a female warrior in Chinese opera was inspired by the beauty and delicacy of shadow puppetry. By using lightweight cow leather, I twined it into a three-dimensional structure that would maximize freedom, comfort, and durability while still maintaining its airy quality. Moisture was applied to keep the leather supple enough to model intricate designs on both body garments and headdresses with different shades of gold added through Chinese brush strokes for a contrastive yin-yang effect.
